Anyway it is worth refueling the tank on time :) Especially if you are traveling in the Dominican Republic, and there are so many beautiful unexplored places to visit are coming ahead.
There are many gas stations here. Brands such as Shell, Texaco and Total are represented even in small towns. Most gas stations are equipped with a mini-market, where you can find almost everything you might need on the road. But, unfortunately, they do not work around the clock, so it is better to take care of refueling before 10:00 pm.
In the Dominican Republic, gasoline, like engine oil, is sold not in liters, but in American gallons. One gallon equals approximately 3.75 liters. But to refuel the car, the driver does not say the number of gallons, but the amount for which he is going to refuel.
Gasoline (in Spanish Gasolina) is divided into two types:
Gasolina regular and Gasolina premium is a The price of a gallon is $4.4, i.e. $1.1 for 1 liter.
It is possible to refuel the car with diesel fuel — $3.7 per gallon, $0.9 per liter.
And also cars with gas filling are very popular here, they use propane gas (cost per gallon $2, per liter about $0.4). Gas filling stations are usually marked with the inscription «GAS».
Basically, at gas stations you pay in cash, although there are some gas stations that are equipped with terminals. It is better not to lose vigilance with cash — you should not keep it in the glove compartment of a car, if only for a very small amount, and take out your wallet too often at gas stations. This advice applies not only to gas stations, but also to small shops located near roads.
At the gas station in the Dominican Republic, tourists are offered an extra-service: there is no self-service here, one of several refuellers will do everything for you, who already at the entrance to the territory show which dispenser to drive to. For a small tip, the station employee will wash your glasses and mirrors, therefore there is simply no need to leave the car.
And finally, a few life hacks:
- the filling station machine must be reset to zero before refueling, otherwise you risk paying for the fuel poured into the previous car;
- after the gasoline is filled into the tank, you should see the amount of refueling and the number of gallons filled on the display/board;
- the type of fuel must correspond to the one recommended by our staff for this vehicle;
- it is better to check all calculations, especially when it comes to currency exchange rates.
And the main life hack: after filling the tank of your car, relax and enjoy your magical trip after all, the Dominican Republic is indescribably beautiful!
